While it doesn't directly kill the enemy right away, it can get pretty strong if you have a reliable way to get tens or hundreds of curses on your enemies. It is a pretty simple one, you can stack as many curses as you want/can on enemies and they will take damage at regular intervals based on how many curses they are under. ![]() You can also use your own units to generate souls when they die or get removed, making temporary units very interesting (the one that summons skelettons ends up generating souls over time for example). ![]() This allows you to deploy an incresibly powerful unit with the only downside being that the health is the same as usual so they are great against a boss but if enemies piled up it will just die. There is a military unit card with soul siphon that gains attack based on the amount of souls and the unit remains at that amount once deployed. You start with one of such card, forbidden trade, that gives you gold depending on the amount of souls in the card. Soul siphon cards retain the amount of souls until they are played (after that they go back to 0) and can usually become very potent with a couple hundred souls on them. The leader's power also generates souls based on the cards currently in the tomb. The first is the fact that all units that die release a "soul" that serves to charge buildings as well as any card in hand with soul siphon. The shaman leader has two main mechanics that can be used to gain an advantage. On release, Ratropolis was received quite well within its community, with a Metacritic aggregate rating of 84.The 3 leaders in the second row are a lot more reliant on using good combos and understanding their specificities (at least compared to the relatiovely easy to understand leaders of the first row). As the developers continued to bring out updates, eventually Ratropolis received a full release in December 2020. In November 2019, Ratropolis made its way to easy access with a release on the Steam platform. These updates completely overhauled user interface, game design and development, general bug fixes, and is now the main platform for the developers to keep the community up to date with changes coming to the game. ![]() Starting in July 2019, Leader Developer Cassel created a developer diary which showed Ratropolis to the world through periodic updates. The game was created in the Unity engine. Their initial goal was to develop a game similar to Civilization, however through development it evolved into tower defence card game instead, closer to what Kingdom: Newland was like. Ratropolis is developed by South Korean-based studio Cassel Games, with Sung Jin Hwang as the Game Director. Up to 20 Pollution levels are unlocked with each successfully completed run, with each adding a cumulative negative effect such as stronger enemies with greater health or less income tax from your citizens, creating a ramping difficulty that becomes more challenging as the player progresses. The aspects include unlocking new characters or advisors which are specific to the character which the player previously has played. The tower-defence card game also features metagaming aspects where the player progresses on failed or completed runs. Starting off certain cards might be effective for earlier strategies, however, the player will be required to make strategic decisions on which cards may have synergies with one another, and which cards must be removed in order to utilized the full strength of their deck. Ratropolis requires players to craft a strategy of their town, and their deck, on the fly determined by advisors and cards they obtain from loot. During gameplay, the player can also discard their hand and draw a new hand of cards in order to continuously refill their hand, granting them access to cards that they have decided to add to their deck. Each of these cards has an associated cost to them which requires the player to balance their income correctly to use their cards efficiently. ![]() Gameplay is played in real-time with the player using cards in their hand to build structures to fend off attackers, hire army personnel to man barricades, and generate income both in-between and during enemy attacks. Waves of enemies include monsters in varying strength and elite enemies which have unique abilities while random encounters require the player to choose between different rewards, purchasing new cards or upgrades to their town, or additional advisors which help their goal of protecting their citizens. The goal of Ratropolis is to fend waves of creatures threatening to destroy the town that the player creates, with each wave getting progressively harder until they are faced with the boss battle on wave 30. Starting off the paythrough, the player selects one of six playable characters, each with a starting deck, gold, and an advisor which provides a unique advantage specific to that character. Ratropolis is the combination of a deck-building and tower defence game.
